The 30th AIF Board Of Directors Meeting

The 30th AIF Board Of Directors Meeting

Malaysia concluded its three-year chairmanship of the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund (AIF) at the 30th AIF Board of Directors Meeting, marking a significant milestone in strengthening regional infrastructure financing and advancing sustainable development across ASEAN. During the chairmanship, Malaysia provided strategic leadership in repositioning the AIF to enhance its financing capacity, competitiveness and regional impact.

Under Malaysia’s leadership, the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund (AIF) has significantly strengthened regional solidarity by providing a platform for ASEAN to accelerate their sustainable development. Through the AIF Action Plan 2025–2028 and enhanced financing terms—including longer grace periods and higher lending limits under the ASEAN Catalytic Green Finance Facility (ACGF)—member nations can effectively manage public debt while funding large-scale public works. This collaborative framework successfully approved five new green projects backed by USD 63 million in AIF funding, mobilizing USD 897 million in co-financing, assisting recipient countries close critical infrastructure gaps in energy, water and transport. The launch of the Regional Connectivity Fund for Energy (RCF) with USD 25 million in initial pledges advances the ASEAN Power Grid, providing enhanced energy security and cross-border power sharing. In addition, the launch of a new AIF Communications Plan and revamped website in January 2026 elevates regional visibility, boosting global investor confidence to attract fresh international capital for the collective benefit of all ASEAN partners.

Malaysia, represented by YBhg. Dato’ Zamzuri Abdul Aziz, Deputy Secretary General of Treasury (Policy), officially handed over the chairmanship of AIF to Indonesia for the upcoming term. Malaysia remains committed to supporting the AIF’s continued growth and mission to mobilise financing for sustainable infrastructure development across ASEAN.
