The 2nd ASEAN+3 Task Force Meeting

The 2nd ASEAN+3 Task Force Meeting was successfully Co-Chaired by Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from 5 – 6 March 2025 at the Xiamen National Accounting Institute, Xiamen, PRC.

The Meeting covered key topics including ASEAN+3 Strategic and Policy Issues, the AMRO Working Committee, the Future Direction of the Regional Financing Agreement and Policy Adjustment Instrument, ASEAN+3 Future Initiatives, the Asian Bond Market Initiative (ABMI), Disaster Risk Financing Initiatives and the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation (CMIM).

The meeting provided updates on the Strategic Directions of the ASEAN+3 Finance Process (2019SD) with members supporting a timely update in response to shifts in the economic and financial landscape. Additionally, discussions included the establishment of an Expert Panel (EP) for the Strategic Direction Report comprising five (5) nominees from ASEAN including one candidate from Malaysia and three (3) nominees from ASEAN+3. The meeting also reviewed the latest nominees for the ASEAN+3 Finance Think-Tank Network (AFTN) with five (5) institutions nominated by four (4) member authorities (Cambodia, Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Thailand) including two institutions from Malaysia. The outcome of this meeting will be presented in ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (AFMGM+3) scheduled on 4 May 2025 for endorsement.

The meeting was Co-Chaired by YBhg. Dato’ Zamzuri Abdul Aziz, Deputy Secretary General of Treasury (Policy), Mr. Cheng Zhijun, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Relations, Ministry of Finance, PRC, Mr. Sim Wee Haw, Deputy Director of the International Department, Bank Negara Malaysia and Mr Jing Chen, Deputy Director General People’s Bank of China.

This meeting was the continuation of the 1st ASEAN+3 Task Force meeting held on 14 - 15 January 2025 in Langkawi, Malaysia. The upcoming ASEAN+3 Task Force Meetings are due to be held in Kuching, Sarawak and in Dalian, China.

Malaysia delegation also had a bilateral meeting with the China Ministry of Finance to discuss this year’s priorities status and to further collaborate to ensure all priorities can be completed during the Co-Chairmanship. #MyASEAN2025
